Carl Lee Ollis, 84, of Erwin passed away Monday, July 6, 2015 in the James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center. He was a native of Erwin and was a son of the late Walter N. Ollis and Virgie Smith Ollis. Mr. Ollis was of the Holiness Faith and was a self-employed contractor. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served his country during the Korean Conflict, earning the Purple Heart, the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Campaign Medal, Korean Service Medal and the ROK Presidential Unit Citation. He loved his country and his family. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters, Lola May Ollis, Nancy Ollis and Barbara Jean Hopson. Survivors include two sisters, Anna Joyce NcNalley of Erwin and Loraine Drake and husband, Gary of Rossville, GA; four brothers, Roy Glen Ollis and wife, Barbara of Jonesborough, Farrell R. Ollis and wife, Linda of Erwin, Walter Ray Ollis Jr. and Sherry of Erwin; and Harry C. Ollis and wife, Mae of Erwin; a special niece, Dolores McKinney of Greeneville; also many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Ollis will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday, July 9, 2015 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Pastor E.L. Wheeler officiating. Special music will be provided by Queenie Wheeler. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Erwin with Military Honors provided by the Boone Dam VFW Honor Guard Detail. Pallbearers will be selected from the family and friends. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 11:00 AM until the service hour.
