Brenda Cole, 70, 603 E. Mercury Street, Johnson City passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the home of a son. She was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City and was a daughter of the late Ernest and Bessie Land Cole. Ms. Cole was a retired CNA and was a Baptist by faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Ray and Ernest Cole. Survivors include six children, Anna Carmon, Kathy Coy and Shannon Coy all of Johnson City, Larry Tester and his wife, Melissa of Elizabethton, Vickie Tester of Jonesborough and Brian Tester and his wife, Angel of Elizabethton; two sisters, Linda Shell and husband, Roy of Jonesborough and Mary Arnett of Johnson City; fourteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Ms. Cole will be conducted at 7:00 PM Monday, August 18, 2014 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Mr. Steve Shell and Rev. Lennie Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 until the service hour. Other times at the home of her son, 279 Roosevelt Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 19, 2014 in the Washington County Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Larry and Brian Tester, Shannon Coy, Michael and Donnie Carmon and Brandon Tester. Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Whitson, Jimmy Sampson and Ray Cole. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at the funeral home Tuesday by 10:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses. The family would like to give special thanks to the entire staff of Mountain States Hospice of Johnson City for the wonderful care they provided.
