Billy Joe West, 70, Johnson City passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018 in the Franklin Woods Community Hospital. He was a native of Shelby, North Carolina and was a son of the late Roy and Bonita Fortenberry West. Mr. West had worked for RCR Racing for many years. He was a proud member of India Company, 3rd Battalion, U.S. Marine Corp. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patsy Hall West in 2014.Survivors include his wife, Sherry Stills West of Johnson City; a brother, Doug West and his wife, Teresa of Stanley, NC; a cousin, Doris Wellmon and her husband, Roy; two nephews, Mark West and Jeff Canite; a niece, Wendy West; a special friend, Curtis Edison of Waco, GA.Graveside services for Mr. West will be conducted Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 10:45 AM in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with Chaplain James Hightower officiating. Military Honors will provided by the Carter County Honor Guard Detail. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Bill and I were good friends growing up in Lawndale, NC and attending Piedmont School. Billy was always cheerful and friendly to everyone. He never met a stranger. RIP Billy Joe.

Rest In Peace, our sweet cousin. My sister, Phyllis West Greene and I have so many memories of Bill. Especially, when we were young, many years ago and played together during your visits w your wonderful parents. Our Love and heartfelt condolences go out to his friends and family.
