I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, and I have kept the faith: Mrs. Betty Canipe Kimbler, 84, Johnson City went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, December 27, 2012 in the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Buladean, NC but had lived in Johnson City most of her life. Mrs. Kimbler was a daughter of the late Harrison and Nettie Garland Canipe. She was owner and operator of the Lucky Grill for many years and later along with her husband owned and operated Dan's Antiques. Mrs. Kimbler was a member of the Grace Freewill Baptist Church in Johnson City. She loved her church and church family very much. She also loved people and caring for others, she enjoyed antiquing and most of all, she loved her family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Kimbler in 1994; three brothers, J.C., Ted and Wiley Canipe; a sister, Velma Crowder; a grandson, Doug Smith; also two great-grandsons, Moses and Jade Spurling. Mrs. Kimbler is survived by a daughter, Sarah Greer and her husband, Jimmy of Johnson City; a sister, Creola Stultz and her husband, Roger of Maryland; a brother, Earl Canipe also of Maryland; two granddaughters, Kim Smith of Gray and Danielle Spurling and her husband, John of Kingsport; five great-grandchildren, Eric Phimphrachenvongsoth, Douglas Smith, Taylor Spurling, Noah Spurling and Caleb Spurling; a great-great-granddaughter, Shiloh Smith; special friends, Tim and June Crowder; also several nieces and nephews survive. A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Kimbler will be conducted at 7:00 PM Wednesday, January 2, 2013 in the Grace Freewill Baptist Church, 2110 Knob Creek Road, Johnson City with Pastor Curtis Hurt officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 3, 2013 in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Douglas Smith, Tim Crowder, Bill Widener, Jimmy Greer, John Spurling and Eric Phimphrachenvongsoth. Everyone attending this service is asked to meet at Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue by 10:30 AM Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Appalachian Christian Village, Mrs. Pearl Blackburn and Pastor Curtis Hurt for all of their kindness and support.
