Barbara Jean Hopson

Mrs. Barbara Jean Ollis Hopson, 75, 215 Pippin Hollow Road, Erwin passed away Friday, September 21, 2012 at her residence. She was a native and lifelong resident of Unicoi County and was a daughter of the late Walter and Virgie Smith Ollis. Mrs. Hopson was retired from the V.A. Medical Center Hospital where she had worked in nursing for many years. She was a member of the Pentecostal Faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Hopson and two sisters, Nancy and Lola Mae Ollis. She is survived by a daughter, Valarie Penley and her husband, David of Athens, GA; a son, Michael Zabala of Jonesborough; five brothers, Carl Lee Ollis, Farrell Ollis and his wife, Linda, Harry Ollis and his wife, Mae, Junior Ollis and Sherry Hague all of Erwin and Roy Glen Ollis and his wife, Barbara of Jonesborough; two sisters, Anna J. McNalley of Erwin and Loraine Drake and her husband, Gary of Rossville, GA; a grandson, Colby Ryan Penley of Buford, GA; a granddaughter, Destiny Dawn Zabala of Erwin; also several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mrs. Hopson will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 25, 2012 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Pastor E. L. Wheeler officiating. Internment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Erwin. Pallbearers will be selected form the family and friends. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM. Other times at the home of a brother, Junior Ollis, 2207 N. Main Avenue, Erwin; In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the Caris Hospice Group, 514 Justis Drive, Greeneville, TN 37745 or to the National Kidney Foundation, 5201 Kingston Pike, Ste 6-130, Knoxville, TN 37919.
