Arnold R. Briggs

Arnold R. Briggs, 90, 126 Briggs Road, Jonesborough passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Flag Pond and a son of the late Seth and Virgie McIntosh Briggs. Mr. Briggs had been self-employed in the Auto Salvage Business. He was a member of the Bethany Missionary Baptist Church in Jonesborough. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters, Wilma Ellis, Stella Silvers, Madge Foster and Hazel Higgins; also five brothers, Hector Briggs, Seth Briggs Jr., Jerry Briggs, Hyrum Briggs and Douglas Briggs; Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Hathaway Rice Briggs of the home; a son, Ronald Briggs and wife, Geraldine of Gray; two daughters, Rena Bowers and husband Donald of Jonesborough, and Linda Wood and husband, John of Gray; two granddaughters, Tina Balthis and husband, Larry and Kristy Hutchinson and husband, Roger; three grandsons, Keith Rice and wife, Tina, Brian Briggs and wife, April and Curt Sells and wife, Laranda; twenty-one great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Mion and husband, Tony of Ohio; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Briggs will be conducted 7:00 PM Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at the Bethany Missionary Baptist Church, 162 Bethany Church Road off A.A. Deakins Road, Jonesborough with Pastor Jerry Keasling officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 4:00 PM until the service hour. Other times at the home, 126 Briggs Road, Jonesborough. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 31, 2014 in the Tri-Cities Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Keith Rice, Brian Briggs, Curt Sells, Tyler, Austin and Dylan Britt, Mark Rice and Trey Balthis. Everyone attending this service is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 AM.
