Ali Abdul-Aziz Atlasy, Johnson City passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 4, 2014 in the Johnson City Medical Center after an extended illness. Known by his friends and family as "Al" the owner of Classic Billiards of Johnson City. He was born in Bagdad, Iraq on April 9, 1935 and was the eldest of eight children and the first to immigrate to the United States in February 1958 in pursuit of a new life. Mr. Atlasy worked hard and earned an accounting degree from Steed College in Johnson City. After traveling and working throughout the United States, he decided to make Johnson City his permanent home. He was a successful business man, who cultivated many life-long friends both domestically and internationally. Mr. Atlasy returned to Bagdad, Iraq last year to reconnect with his beloved family, some of whom were not born decades ago when he left. It was one of the most gratifying experiences of his life. Mr. Atlasy was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Atlasy who passed away August 19, 2008. He is survived by six children, Julie, Sammy, Ramsey, Adam, Rocky and Aaron, to whom he was the closest and who resided with him. Mr. Atlasy's service will be conducted by the Muslim Community of Northeast Tennessee, 3010 Antioch Road, Johnson City at 2:00 PM Friday, June 6, 2014. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Johnson City. The family welcomes the presence of all who wish to express their last respects.
