Vernon “Jerry” Anderson, 77, Johnson City passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2018. He was a native of Blount County, TN and was a son of the late Charlie and Eva Marie Guire Anderson. Mr. Anderson started work for Kiser-Woodall Funeral Home in 1957 and in 1960 served his country in the US Navy until 1964, then returned to the funeral home. He then purchased the funeral home in 1990. He spent his life serving others, and was one of the most trusted and loved funeral directors in our area. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Anderson and a special cousin, Mildred Hughes.
Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara Sneyd Lyons of the home; two daughters, Lisa Bennett and fiancé, Ed Falin and Carolyn Lyons and friend, Mike Elliott; four grandchildren, Alicia Rucker and husband, Eric, Jessica Burkhart and husband, Tommy, Chris Bennett and Tabitha Sisk and Joseph Smith and wife, Amanda; five great-grandchildren, Liam Smith, Silas Rucker, Ashton Price, Ambrosia and Phoenix Bennett.
A nephew, Stan Anderson and a sister-in-law, Betty G. Anderson both of Bristol.
Funeral services for Mr. Anderson will be conducted at 7:00 PM Sunday, July 22, 2018 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Pastor Larry Dugger and Pastor E.L. Wheeler officiating. Special music will be provided by Queenie Wheeler. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 23, 2018 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Joe Fillers, Louie Blevins, Rocky Ward, D.J. Dugger, Joseph Smith and Tommy Burkhart. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 AM.
