He loved playing and singing bluegrass gospel music and fishing. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Wanda Sue Vest Vanover; brothers, Raymond, James and Lloyd Vanover; sisters, Mary Holmes and Phyllis Nelson; and his beloved dog, Puddles.
He is survived by his daughter, Sheila Houk of Jonesborough; granddaughter, Megan Franklin (Aaron); great-granddaughter, Zelda Franklin; sisters, Betty Roberson, Judy Taylor and Viola Barnett (Gary); several nieces and nephews and many friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Merrick and his nurses for their care and compassion, Maggie at Lincare, who supplied the equipment that kept him as comfortable as possible, and all the nurses and PT’s who kept him motivated and moving, Ken Vest who always came to help when called, no matter how unpleasant the task, Kelvin and Becky Lester who always made Dad feel welcome and loved and did whatever they could to help, and to the many people who faithfully prayed for him. May God bless you all!
