Patricia “Pat” Broyles, 60, of Elizabethton passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 in the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Johnson City and was a daughter of Natilee Hurt Stinnett of Johnson City and the late Kenneth Stinnett. Pat was an avid dog lover and founded Broyles Adoption, where she took in abandoned dogs with special attention to pregnant dogs. She gave a loving home to them as they birthed and nursed their babies until time to adopt them out to loving forever homes. Pat was affectionately know as the “dog lady” by many over the years. She had previously served as President of the Carter County Humane Society and devoted many selfless hours to her passion. Pat’s hobbies included crocheting, quilting, sewing and canning and enjoyed giving the fruits of her labor to others. She was an incredible woman of strength and will be missed by all of her family and many friends. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by her husband, David W. Broyles in 2008; two daughters, Wendy Michelle Shuffler and Tara S. Fields; a son, Derick W. Fields; three brothers, Larry, Lynn and Raymond Stinnett.

Survivors in addition to her mother includes her son, Harley Lee White and wife, Taylor of Elizabethton; two sisters, Wanda DeBord of Morristown and Marilyn Watts of Elizabethton; a granddaughter, Madison Ann Shuffler; also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Pat will be conducted at 7:00 PM Thursday, January 4, 2018 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Pastor Alan Stewart officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 5, 2018 in the Roselawn Memory Park. Pallbearers will be selected from the family and friends. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the Carter County Humane Society, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
