John David Brookshire

November 25, 1968 ~ February 15, 2018 (age 49)



John David Brookshire, 49, of Johnson City passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Carter County and had lived in Johnson City most of his life. John was a graduate of Happy Valley High School and was self-employed in flooring and tiling installation. He was a member of Johnson City Baptist Temple. John loved going to church, going to car shows with his son, loved listening to music, especially the Blues. He also was very good with computers and was an avid UT Football fan and a Green Bay Packers fan. John loved his son, Kurtis more than anything and always enjoyed riding around on a pretty day in his 2007 Mustang. He had a great heart and always had a smile. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Windom and Pauline Brookshire and his maternal grandparents, George and Edith Shell.


Survivors include his parents, Pastor Wilkie Brookshire and Iva and Carole Shell Brookshire; a son, Kurtis Jack Brookshire of Piney Flats; two brothers, Ronnie Brookshire and wife, Nancy of Nashville and Chris Brookshire of Pondsray, Idaho; a sister, Christy Tyree and husband, James of Elizabethton; two step-brothers, Charlie West and wife, Keisa and Benny West and wife, Linda all of Johnson City; a step-sister, Shawne Holly and husband, Dennis of Johnson City; his nieces and nephews, Taylor, Hunter, Remington, Bailey and Madison Tyree and Wyatt Brookshire.


Funeral service for John will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 17, 2018 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Rev. Gary Cole officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the service hour. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Johnson City. Pallbearers will b e selected from family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to his son, Kurtis Brookshire, First Tennessee Bank, 2112 N. Roan Street, 1st Floor, Johnson City, TN 37601.
