Jean Tester Sutphin, 84, Johnson City went home to be with the Lord, Monday, October 22, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was a lifelong resident of Johnson City and was a daughter of the late Steve and Rose Dulaney Tester. Jean was of the Baptist faith and attended Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church for a number of years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman “Plug” Sutphin in 1999; four brothers, Bill, Jack, Howard and Charles Tester; three half-sisters, Juanita “Neal” Ball, Ruby Bryant and Nell Proffitt; two half-brothers, Paul and Ralph Tester.
Survivors include her two sons, Rick Sutphin and wife, Margie and Randy Sutphin, of Johnson City; three sisters, Betty Bradshaw and husband, Hobart of Johnson City, Dorothy Clark of Johnson City and Ruth Story and husband, Melvin of Telford; a sister-in-law, Pat Tester of Johnson City; two special nieces, Sue hicks and Michelle Foster; special friends and neighbors, Vickie Pearce and April and family; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Jean will be conducted at 7:00 PM Thursday, October 25, 2018 in the Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Rev. Paul Crowe and Rev. Hobart Bradshaw officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 AM.
