Dr. Elizabeth Ahmad, Johnson City passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 17th, 2018, after a brief illness. She was born January 26, 1963 in Grand Prairie, TX and was the daughter of the late Hilliard and Ruby Sheppard. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Irshad Ahmad. Friends knew her as “Liz.”
Liz grew up in Elizabethton, having graduated from East Tennessee State University School of Nursing then from Ross University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine and entered private practice in psychiatry. She also practiced for a number of years at the VA Medical Center in Mountain Home, helping veterans with PTSD before joining her husband in full-time private practice. Surviving family members include Rifi Ahmad of Johnson City, Jani Lilly and husband Jason of Atlanta, and Dr. Rick Ahmad and wife Donna of Baton Rouge, LA,. Grand children include Nick, Devin and Garrett Lilly; and Collin, Jill, and Shannon Ahmad. She is also survived by three sisters Brenda Rogers, Lydia Turner, and Lynn Grindstaff, great uncle Paul DeLong, and cousin Pete DeLong.
Funeral service for Liz will be conducted at 3:30 PM Thursday, February 22, 2018 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Rev. Gene Deaton officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 PM until the service hour. A private interment will be held Friday in the Oak Hill Cemetery beside her beloved husband, Irshad.
