Charles William Grindstaff, 71, Johnson City passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019 at his residence with his family at his side. He was a native of Johnson City and was a son of the late Marshall Miller and Oda Kate Grindstaff. Mr. Grindstaff was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran. After retirement he worked in Security for several years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Mottern Grindstaff in 2017; a daughter, Kimberly Klein; a brother, Mickey Grindstaff and a sister, Katie Wallace.
Survivors include a daughter, Kelly Grindstaff and her fiance', Phillip Brent of Johnson City; a grandson, Nicholas Klein and wife, Jennifer of Virginia; three sisters, Bea Boswell and husband, Don of Indiana, Mary Lee Campbell of Johnson City and Linda Chandler and husband, Tony of Watauga; a brother, Larry Bo Grindstaff and wife, Evy of Johnson City; also many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Grindstaff will be conducted at 7:00 PM Thursday, May 30, 2019 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Rev. Gene Deaton officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services with Military Honors provided by the Carter County Honor Guard Detail will be 11:00 AM Friday, May 31, 2019 at Washington County Memory Gardens. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 AM.
